A Place In History
Just a few kilometres from Pienza, on a hill and rightly known as the balcony of the Val d’Orcia, lies Monticchiello, one of the most beautiful medieval villages of  Italy. It’s origins are lost in time but Monticchiello’s history goes back at least until the year 973, of which the first official document dates. Inside the villages fortifications little of it’s medieval characteristics have changed so wandering through the narrow streets and alleys is like ‘breathing’ the medieval life of Tuscany.

A Place To Stay
The entrance to the village from the city gate, the Porta Sant’Agata, offers some stunning views across the valley to Pienza. This extraordinarly beautiful region of Tuscany, the Val d’Orcia, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2004, which makes it one of the gems of Tuscany and a perfect location for tourists to find their accommodation like our bed & breakfast In Toscana.

A Place To Explore
Monticchiello is the perfect base to explore Tuscany. It offers peace and quiet to completely relax but main tourist atractions like Pienza and Montepulciano are only 15 minutes away by car. Also cities like Siena, Florence, Perugia, Assisi and San Gimigniano are nearby and even Rome or the Tuscan coast. With several hiking- and bikingroutes going right through Monticchiello it also provides more than enough to spend an active vacation. And even though Monticchiello is a small village, it offers some of the finest restaurants in the area to enjoy the wonders of the Tuscan kitchen and the marvelous wines from the area, like the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Brunello di Montalcino and the Orcia .

A Place To Enjoy
Between July and August culture lovers can surely get their fill with the famous Teatro Povero di Monticchiello, the poor Theater of Monticchiello. Since 1967 this nightly theatrical experience, written, directed and recited by the residents of Monticchiello is staged in the main square of the village. But you can also admire the frescoes  of the Church of Santi Leonardo and Christoforo which dates back to the 13th century.

A Place In The Sun
Monticchiello has a nice mild and sunny Tuscan climate so the weather is usualy good for the larger part of the year.

We hope to see you soon In Toscana!
