Pienza is a lovely city in southern Tuscany in the beautiful valley called Val d’Orcia. Located between Montepulciano and Montalcino on top of a hill, dominating all the Orcia Valley with extraordinary views on the gentle hills and wonderful natural landscapes.

This charming city is also known as the “ideal city of the Renaissance”, a creation of Pope Pius II, who was born in Pienza as Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who later became Pope Pius II. Piccolomini had the money and influence to transform his birthplace village, originaly called Corsignano, into what he considered the Utopian city should be, exemplifying the principles and philosophy of classical times and of the Italian Renaissance. And so Pienza became the realization of a dream.

Under the protection of UNESCO, Pienza still remains the same dream of a city as it was in the times of Pope Pius II but now it also offers lots of restaurants, cheese tasting, wine tasting and local events like for example the annual Flower Festival or the weekly Italian market.

Pienza is situated just 15 minutes by car from Monticchiello where you can find our Bed & Breakfast In Toscana.

Hope to see you soon In Toscana!
